Thursday, August 5th, sees the relaunch of the Knock Knock Dance Party at the Rye Bar, a collaborative attempt between myself and my buddy Merkatroid/Wonky Kong over at Jockin’ Bitz to foray into the somewhat cluttered landscape of dancefloor politics in Athens, Ga. As a veteran of the late 90′s/early 00′s dance scene boom, it pains me to see the lack of options for what I call “serious dance music” in Athens.

Now in its 9th year, the Wired Dance Music Festival in Athens is a showcase of local and regional talent currently active in the electronic music scene. While the annual AthFest celebrations traditionally focus on highlighting established and upcoming bands, Wired was conceived as a vehicle for DJs and producers to push their respective genres to the forefront with no artistic restrictions.

Common Ground Athens is a community resource center in Athens, Ga, dedicated to “progressive social change” in the community. On April 10th, from 11am to 1pm, they are hosting a Mayoral Town Hall Meeting at Lay Park hoping to facilitate dialogue between members of the community and the various candidates for Mayor of Athens on issues related to sustainability.
